Cutting Confidence: Scissor Skills Activity Pack

Help your child develop confidence using scissors with this progressive cutting activity pack.

Children begin by cutting along straight lines before progressing to curved, wavy and zigzag paths. Cutting supports hand strength, hand-eye coordination, visual tracking and the ability to use both hands together—important skills for pencil control, handwriting and completing everyday classroom activities independently.

Two helpful videos are included: one demonstrates how to introduce the printable activities, while the other shares practical tips to help your child hold and use scissors more effectively.

Make it easier

Begin with the straight cutting lines. Provide a smaller piece of paper that is easier for your child to hold and encourage them to cut slowly.

Offer assistance with holding or turning the paper if needed, while allowing your child to control the scissors.

Make it harder

Progress to curved, wavy and zigzag lines. Encourage your child to turn the paper with their supporting hand while keeping their scissors pointing forwards.

As confidence grows, challenge your child to cut more accurately along the lines.
