Help your child understand that every written number represents a specific quantity with this practical, hands-on numeracy activity.

Children use the printable numeral cards alongside familiar objects from around the home, matching each numeral to the correct number of items. This helps them move beyond simply recognising a number symbol and begin understanding what that number actually means.

Developing this understanding is an important part of early number sense and provides a strong foundation for counting, comparing quantities and solving mathematical problems in Kindergarten.

The included demonstration video shows you how to introduce and adapt the activity confidently with your child at home.

Make it easier

Begin with numerals 1–5 and use larger objects that are easy for your child to pick up and count. Encourage them to touch or move each object as they place it onto the numeral card.

As their confidence develops, gradually introduce numerals up to 10.

Make it harder

Progress to numerals 1–15 and then 1–20. Encourage your child to recognise the numeral independently, collect the correct quantity and carefully check their answer.

You can also present the numeral cards in a mixed order rather than working through them sequentially.
