Help your child develop an ear for rhyme with this colourful, hands-on picture card activity.
Recognising rhyming words teaches children to notice when words have the same ending sound. This strengthens their listening skills and phonological awareness—an important foundation for learning to read, spell and write.
The activity can be adapted as your child’s confidence grows, while the included demonstration video shows you exactly how to introduce and enjoy the activity at home.
Make it easier
Begin with only a few familiar rhyming pairs. Say each word clearly and encourage your child to listen carefully to the ending sounds before matching the cards.
Make it harder
Introduce more cards and challenge your child to sort them into rhyming groups independently. You can also use the cards to play a larger matching or Snap-style game.
