Help your child understand number order by finding and completing the missing numbers within a sequence.
In this activity, friendly monsters and insects take the place of different numerals. Children examine each number sequence, work out which numeral is missing and place the correct number tile over the picture.
Recognising and completing number patterns helps children understand that numbers follow a predictable order. These sequencing skills are used regularly in Kindergarten and provide important foundations for counting, place value, addition, subtraction and mathematical problem-solving.
The included demonstration video shows you how to prepare the resources and introduce the activity confidently at home.
Make it easier
Begin with number sequences covering 1–5. Read the visible numbers aloud together and encourage your child to identify which number should fill the gap.
Offer only a few possible number tiles and allow your child to use a number line for additional visual support.
Make it harder
Progress to sequences covering numbers 1–10 and then 1–12. Mix the number tiles and encourage your child to complete each sequence independently.
Your child can also write the missing numeral rather than using the provided tiles. Once they can complete the sequences accurately, introduce a gentle timer to build fluency and confidence.
