Help your child practice number recognition and counting through an active movement game that makes early numeracy engaging and enjoyable.
Children roll a die or flip a numeral card before completing the corresponding number of movements, such as jumping, clapping, hopping or stomping. This helps them connect written numerals with quantities while practicing counting in a meaningful way.
Incorporating movement can help young children remain engaged and remember new concepts more easily. This activity supports early numeracy while also developing coordination, listening and the ability to follow instructions.
The included demonstration video shows you how to introduce the game and adapt it as your child’s confidence develops.
Make it easier
Begin with numbers 1–5 and use simple movements, such as clapping, jumping or tapping. Complete the movements alongside your child and count each one aloud together.
As their confidence grows, gradually introduce numbers up to 10.
Make it harder
Progress to numbers 10–20 and encourage your child to suggest more complex movements or combine two actions.
For an additional challenge, play a movement-based counting game such as What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?, encouraging your child to carefully count each step or jump.
